Readers To Leaders

Principal Phillips does just about ANYTHING to get our school to read!
We celebrated our first nine weeks Readers To Leaders with a dunking booth!  The kiddos cheered on as Principal Phillips ultimately got
DUNKED and promoted Chets Creek students to READ!!
Keep Up the GREAT READING for the 2nd Nine Weeks!
We can't wait to see what Mrs. Phillips will do next!

Look who's talking!

We have been talking about Kevin Henkes and his books.  Today we talked about some of the characters using accountable talk.  We know the standards ask us to describe characters and to use the illustrations and details in the story to help describe the characters and to also compare and contrast the experiences of the characters. The standard also ask us to participate in collaborative conversations. Collaborative  conversations help us to think more deeply about the text.

Special Readers

Our very own Mrs. McCloud, a Chets Creek 2nd grade teacher, brought her collection of fall fun books to our classroom to read! Thank you Mrs. McCloud for sharing and reading to our class! I know one sweet girl that loved having her mommy read to her class!!

Mrs. Foster or the sweet spider lady made a special appearance to read one of her families favorite books!! The kiddos LOVED listening to you read Room on the Broom

We love guest readers!! Anytime you have a family favorite let us know and we would love to have you read to our class!

Book of the Month

"Home, You know where it is when you're there. But sometimes you get a bit separated from home, and you may need a little help finding your way back. "
Principal Phillips brought a well loved monthly tradition that she does with the teachers to the classroom.  Mrs. Phillips came to our room and asked our kiddos to "put on our close reading glasses" and "to look harder at the text."  She read the book The Farmer and The Clown by Marla Frazee and asked us to look across the entire text to build interpretation.  Our class enjoyed having a special reader and loved the book!

Reading Buddies

We read with our Reading Buddies today looking closely at the characters. As buddies we helped each other find anchor words and recall the particular part of a story that we knew we liked that character! Each partner acted out a scene from a star book, with each child taking on the roles of characters.
