Duval Math: Counting on, Parts, and Bonds
We have jumped head first into our brand new Math curriculum Duval Math! In Module 1, we are focusing on sums and differences to 10! In today's lesson we focused on "counting on" while using dot cards and number bonds! The students explored breaking dot cards into 2 parts and then creating a number bond! Here are a few pictures of our students in action!
We worked with partners today and in this duo above, one student circles the 2 parts while the other constructs the number bond! As you can see she has circled 3 dots and another 3 dots. Using the number bond, her partner recognizes that 3 is one part, 3 is the other part, and they combine together to make 6! In practicing "counting on" the pair started with 3 and counted on 3 more (3....4..5..6) to know the total was 6!
The students were given a set of problems to complete! Very cool to investigate the different ways our students saw 8 today! We give our students a task, challenge, and ultimate challenge during the problem sets! Ask your child how they did today!
