The Florida Theater & Sunshine Park

Our first field trip is in the books....
We went to The Florida Theatre to watch Junie B's Essential Survival Guide to School!  Junie B. is a funny character that uses her words incorrectly and was struggling with the rules of her school classroom.  Our class enjoyed their first experience at the theater.

We were then off to have a picnic lunch at Sunshine Park!  We enjoyed the nice weather and company while having lunch!

Then we were off to enjoy a brand new park for us!  It was a lot of fun playing with all our kindergarten friends from Chets Creek at the same time!

3D Shapes

Here are the 3D shapes that we know...
A sphere, a cylinder, a cube, a cone and a pyramid!!
(Ask your kiddo about the song we learned today!)

We used clay today to make and manipulate our 3D shapes we are learning.

Science Buddies

We met our 5th grade Science Buddies on Friday! They first came to our Kindergarten classroom and we buddied up and went outside to join in some messy fun!  We made SLIM out of baking soda and water.  We used our five senses to observe the slim and what would happened after we mixed and played with it for awhile!  We came back to the classroom and together discussed many neat observations.  The students were most impressed by the slim becoming "hard' after time passed.  It was great fun for us all!!

Marineland Field Trip

We took our Marineland dolphin adventure today!  We discovered dolphins, sharks, and turtles along a beautiful beach view!
This turtle, Zack, is 15 years old and unfortunately was injuried by a boat. Zack is blind in one eye, however seems to love his home and visitors!
Don't feed the Sharks!!
A beautiful day and a beautiful view!

BMX and Reading!!

Principal Phillips treated our first graders to a special BMX bike show for all their GREAT reading and HARD work in the third nine weeks! Our Readers To Leaders goal is to read a million words by the end of the year and we are right on track!!
Mrs. Phillips is very brave! 😊
The bikers were very talented...
and very encouraging and friendly!

Ms. Jackson Visits Room 128!

Ms. Jackson comes by once a month to teach our kiddos a new character trait and read fabulous books!

This month is all about Self-Control!  Our kiddos listened as Ms. Jackson read books where the characters may not have had the most self-control but all learned a great lesson in the end!

We love Ms. Jackson so much! AND she even leaves us with a brand new book and lollipops to enjoy!

Sprint Success!

This year, our first graders have been tackling a brand new math curriculum, Duval Math. We have seen SO much growth in our students and their number sense is off the charts!

We give timed fluency quizzes every two weeks and they are thriving! A large part of our students' success in terms of fluency has been through the use of fluency activities including Sprints! Our kiddos are excelling so much that a handful of students are completing the sprints with time to spare! We have begun to allow our early finishers the chance to play teacher and call out the answers! Here was today's sprint and one of our students playing teacher!

The Leprechaun Hunt!!

Today we went on a chase to find a Leprechaun! A Leprechaun left us clues that sent us on a hunt around Chets Creek with Mrs. Matthews!
AND the final clue lead us back to our classroom where we were surprised to find...
That a leprechaun had been to our classroom!!

He was a friendly Leprechaun that brought us a yummy St. Patrick's Day treat!!

He did leave us a little present in our restroom though!

Silly leprechaun! Maybe we with catch him next year!

Garden Update

We have been watering our plants everyday! Today when we went to visit our garden and we saw a sprout!! We were SO EXCITED!!! Our garden is growing!!!

Look who's talking!

We have been talking about Kevin Henkes and his books.  Today we talked about some of the characters using accountable talk.  We know the standards ask us to describe characters and to use the illustrations and details in the story to help describe the characters and to also compare and contrast the experiences of the characters. The standard also ask us to participate in collaborative conversations. Collaborative  conversations help us to think more deeply about the text.
